The speaker addresses her idea in this presentation how most people would like to end poverty, that Americans believe successful people are a benefit to the nation, so they want everyone to be successful. She also explains her idea that hard work does not always mean success, and that unified together as a nation we are "collectively unstoppable." She tells the audience how she was able to have "luxury of choice," and that most Americans take what they have for granted, and that being able to "chose" is a luxury in itself. She addresses ethos by describing personal stories and examples to build trust with the audience. Such as explaining how her son owns a business and helps others in the community through it, such as after school tutoring; this establishes the speaker's credibility because she is living the life that of which she is explaining to the listeners. The speaker addresses pathos by creating emotion through her tone and describes how she overcame challenges of lower class obstacles to be successful, these stories connect with the audience's emotions and they want to help these people after listening to her stories of hardships the low class people constantly are facing. Birdsong was a very good speaker, she had enthusiasm in her voice and interacted with the audience's emotions, as well as she included pictures with stories of examples which correlate with the images.
The presentation relates to the American dream by describing how a unified nation helps encourage others to grow and become better, successful, working people. This presentation relates to global dream that people of all classes desire of a successful life for self and families, and that every person around the globe has an important skill that can be useful to help others and the world. She describes how "although the people may be broke, they are not broken." Describing how lower class citizens still have a lot to offer in the community and even people in poverty have skills to provide for America and society and are beneficial to community, the speaker explains that we need to help the people in poverty grow in their skills and build on the strengths which they do have.
I did like this presentation because she speaks with a tone of hope for the lower classes to become successful and that their hardwork will be helped by others and they can live a good life and support their families. I learned about how people can help the lower classes build on their talents and strengths and that they can be very beneficial to the community and are able to achieve their own American Dream.
